Photo Fridays: Lucky

Part of the Full-Arch Rainbow – Sargasso Sea

Originally uploaded by teachergal

Last week my husband and I took a cruise in and out of New York. We spent the last day on and off of the seventh floor deck on the ship walking, taking photos and admiring how lucky we were to have had a chance to celebrate six months of being married in this way.

As we were about to leave the deck to head inside, we noticed a rainbow developing on the starboard side. It was small and faint. We were impressed, but not enough to take a photo.

When we got downstairs for dinner, we looked out the window and noticed the rainbow had become brighter and bigger. In fact, I noticed that it extended into the clouds and arched over widely to the other side of the water. It was amazing… something I had not seen in a long time.

I hesitated leaving our dinner table to take a picture back on the seventh deck, but I couldn’t help myself. I got up and did just that. This is one of the the three photos of the amazing rainbow we saw our last night on-board our cruise. I feel completely fortunate to have seen a rainbow with this kind of beauty.

Wordle

These are my del.icio.us tags. However, I’m thinking I can create a word cloud balloon to put on the front of a card to give to someone too. 🙂

It’s my birthday today!!!

I couldn’t imagine what Marc got me when I walked into the Study this morning. There were three wrapped presents, plus a gift card from Utrecht, sitting in my desk chair.

I opened them up, top to bottom, to see what was inside. At first, I found an eraser and a piece of canvas. Huh? I thought. And then, I opened up the last box and found a very cool, traveling, tabletop easel… perfect for using with my pastels and so much more!

Now that’s a thoughtful gift!

Responsive Classroom

Last week I started thinking, as I was looking at the Hopes & Dreams Sheets each parent did for his/her child at Open House in Sept., that it would be nice if I wrote a Hope & a Dream for each of my students to leave with at the end of June. Hence, I decided to do just that and wrapped them up in decorative boxes (Fresh Paint: Die-Cut Boxes by Marcella K; available at Target) with embellishments (included) and brads (that I had).

I’m pretty happy with the results. Hopefully the kids will appreciate what’s inside these boxes, and not just the boxes themselves.

It’s finished! Calder-like, isn’t it!??!

NFTWriter Tagged Me For A Meme He Created

Here are my answers to NFTWriter’s Meme:
1. What’s your favorite sport?
I don’t really play sports. However, I’d have to say swimming.
2. What sports teams have you played on?
I played on the field hockey and softball teams in middle school.
3. List your favorite professional sports teams’ names:
NY Yankees ALL THE WAY! I also like Columbia University’s Football Team and GWU’s Basketball Team.
4. Who are your favorite athletes on your favorite teams?
Hideki Matsui on the Yankees. I don’t really have favorite players on the college teams.
5. List the professional games you’ve attended.
Lots of Yankees and Mets Games. I have been to the following MLB Games, as well:
Orioles
Mariners
Red Sox
As far as other pro games are concerned, I think I went to a pro basketball game once at Madison Square Garden, but I really don’t remember it.
6. What sport would you want to compete in if you were able to go to the Olympics? Why?
Definitely ice skating! I tried ice skating awhile ago and realized just how hard it was to do edges. Therefore, I have the utmost respect for ice skaters and wish I had enough poise, grace, and strength to be one myself!

Mini Course: Session 1

We had a great time today. Ms. Y. came and helped me out, which was so lovely of her! She prepared the snacks I bought while the kids worked so hard on their Mother’s Day Cards. It was a lovely way to spend an hour with six of my students, plus one third grader and one second grader. The time, however, went too fast!

Finally! A PLACE TO HIDE MY SCRAPS!

Only Ali Edwards would think of a great way to store and (re)use scrapbooking scraps. I LOVE her idea for this weekend’s creative. I think I’ll give it a go if I can get my planning done today.

Two Down, Two to Go

The request for two handmade and two digital scrapbooks has been made (to me) by the students who won the SOLSC in March. This is a small image of the first handmade one I did:

I did the first digital one on Shutterfly, since I had a free photo book code from Scholasti

Really Simple Gift Wrap

Originally uploaded by teachergal

I’ve been subscribing to Real Simple Magazine since 2000, which is when it launched. One tip I remember from the early years was to keep lots of white wrapping paper and ribbon on-hand so that you could wrap any kind of gift at any time. That came in handy tonight when I was wrapping Marc’s Valentine’s Day present!
